Homework Helper

Homework Helper:
Homework serves many purposes. One purpose of homework is to provide the students with additional practice of previously taught skills and knowledge. This also increases the time students engage in learning. Another purpose is to help both the parent, and the teacher, monitor student progress and diagnose problems, which increases communication between parents and the school. Homework also increases the students' personal responsibility and accountability which will facilitate their success the rest of their lives..

Parents: Be sure to sign or initial the agenda each night!

Math: Students have math homework every evening except Friday! Following classroom instruction, side A is completed in class. Students are to complete side B independently for homework, along with fact practice.

Reading: Your fourth grader should be reading a minimum of 25 minutes per night. Record those minutes on their weekly reading log to earn the reward!

Science/Social Studies: Your child is encouraged to bring home their textbook and/or notebooks nightly to re-read, and/or pre-read new units and chapters. Unit tests are posted on our classroom board at least 2 weeks prior to testing.

ELA: As you are aware, the students are given weekly spelling and vocabulary tests on Fridays. They are encouraged to study these words, as well as the challenge words. Thank you in advance for your help and encouragement! Both the weekly spelling words and vocab list will come home on the same sheet of paper each week. Look for them each Monday evening. If they are not in your child's take-home folder, the words are listed here on my website.

4th grade math info

Math Information:
We are using the Saxon Math Program throughout the school year. This program involves a daily morning meeting, review of homework, teacher-directed lesson using manipulatives, as well as daily homework.
Together, side A of each assignment is completed in class, which 'mirrors' side B which your child is to complete daily at home. Please be sure to review your child's homework daily.
Also, your child will be taking a Facts test, as well as a WRITTEN ASSESSMENT test after the completion of every 5 lessons. This information will be coming home, so please be sure to look for it after every 5 lessons.
Finally I have a program called "Math Wizards". If a student is able to get a 100% on a written assessment they will have the next 5 nights with NO MATH HOMEWORK. They have to hand in a PERFECT PAPER. This means everything is labeled and all answers are correct. I go over them with a fine-toothed comb. They of course will have to complete side A of the homework with me in class, but they will not have to hand in homework the following day. I list the Math Wizards each time here on the website, so watch for the names.

Box Tops: Please be sure to keep the box tops coming........ We want to earn tools for our school!

Recess: Please be sure your child comes to school prepared to go outdoors at recess. The weather is still cool and windy as we go outdoors early. Your child is welcome to leave a sweatshirt or jacket in their cubby.
